Re: Polish Saber

Here is what I have used for a few years to do polish saber and still protect my hand. Materials: 1) Mylec Elite Street/Dek Hockey Gloves 2) low heat moldable plastic 3) largest foil cup I could find I used rivets and straps to attach the cup to the front of the clove Used the moldable plastic to ma...

Re: Polish Saber

Oh welding is no big deal plus I like reasons to fire up the TIG welder, I make hilts all the time so pretty easy to do. I can easily cut off and ground flat if I don't like the look or functionality. i guess functionality is one of the most important factor so why you don't like that???? It gets t...

Re: Polish Saber

I tried something just like that on my saber, the problem is that to make that ring I had to go with heavier wire that made the hilt heavier than I liked.

Doing a shell out of 16 gauge is much lighter.

Re: St. Louis, Missouri

All of us started with historical fencing at least 4 to 6 years ago and have migrated to heavier type of weapons since then. Heavier than historical? A lot heavier than historical foil and epee. :D The heaviest that the group did when I started was small sword and rapier, I help "corrupt"...

Re: St. Louis, Missouri

What sources do you study from? Not really that kind of group where we are so focused on studying a particular source(s). I would put us between the guys that focus on studying sources and SCA. Some of us (like me) try to find sources and books to get techniques from but not a formal class, we are ...

Re: St. Louis, Missouri

Some friends and I meet pretty much each Saturday at Wapelhorst park in St. Charles around 10 am. We do a mix of rapier, saber, small sword, cut & thrust and two guys are really into long sword. So if your interested we are always looking for new people to work out with.

Re: Polish Saber

Here is my hand protection that worked out really nice today. I took a shot to the thumb and the glove has enough padding that it stung but no damage. Took several shots across the disk and was very glad it was there. The disk is a 120mm aluminum fencing guard from Zen Warrior with a strap riveted t...

Re: Polish Saber

I bought and tried the Mylec Elite Street/Dek Hockey Gloves not bad, the foam is really dense and does a good job of protections. But not good enough for me since there are a few week spots that I am going to cover with a finger shield. I will post some pictures once I get everything together. Tyler...

Re: Polish Saber

John I totally agree, the problem is that this is just a hobby and I need my hands to work, playing the odds eventually a hit will occur and that would be bad.
So have to come up with some minimal protection that allows the saber to be used correctly but have to play the odds also.
