The HEMA Alliance is a 501c3 non-profit whose day to day operations are run by an elected Governing Council. The Governing Council serves a year term with a 5 year consecutive term-limit. Each year we go through the process of electing a President and 6 Governing Council members, for a total of 7 people in the GC.

After elections the GC chooses a Curriculum Council Director. The CC director operates and maintains Instructor Certification.

Time Frame (Subject to change if we have any delays)

Nominations 7-2-2016 - 7-25-2016

Voting 8-1-2016 - 8-8-2016

New GC Installed
8-15-2016

How it works
People can nominate others to run for office in this forum thread.
People nominated must be a HEMAA member and be prepared to volunteer their time to attend meetings and work on HEMAA issues.
People nominated must accept and also indicate if they are running for the position of President. Only people who have been on the Governing Council before can run for President.

What sort of work needs to be done?
Maintaining Records (Membership/Taxes/Budget)
Maintaining Stock (Shirts/patches)
Website Design and Maintenance
News Letter
Ensure fees (insurance/corporate/IRS) are paid
Promote Projects (Wiktenauer)
Promote Services (Event-Support, Discounts, Instructor Certification)
Promote HEMAA
Educate (Members/Affiliates/Events/Public)
Keep the HEMAA Board of Directors informed
Maintain relationships with the community
Moderate social media
Vote on expenditures
Vote on policy
Update forum on GC business
More!

Who is unable to run?
Richard Marsden. Tyranny of some sort for about 4 years is enough, as Pres or on GC. It's been fun and I'm glad we accomplished lots of the nuts and bolts of getting HEMAA to run better. I'm on the Board of Directors, so it's not like you're entirely rid of me. Although he doesn't like to be called out, special thanks to Jayson Barrons for working hard along with Chris Phoenix on solving the automation on membership. Major issue to me and it has largely been solved along with much more! Thanks guys. Thanks to Ben Floyd for sticking with me for 4 years.

I accept the Nomination.

I am also announcing that I am running for President.

Why are you running for president?
Because Richard can't and my plans to use a coup have now been foiled.

I want to quote something from the bylaws, surrounding the purpose of the HEMAA:
" ...to promote the scholarship and practice of the historical
martial arts of the Western World, including, but not limited to..."

For the past few years the HEMAA has been primarily about insurance for its members. In this past term the GC was able to get a lot of ducks in a row - a new website, a way to finally manage our members, upgraded forums, etc. It was all about house cleaning.

HEMA, as a sub culture, is growing extremely fast right now. How can the Alliance support that? How can the alliance help our clubs grow and flourish? How can we help new people start their own clubs? How can we help HEMA as a whole continue to be welcoming to outsiders? How can we build sustainable practices so that way we continue to grow, rather than exhaust ourselves due to too much busy work?

These are the questions in the next term I'd like to try to answer. If i become president, I cannot promise I will be perfect. I will not make everyone happy. But i can promise you I will try until my fingers bleed, and I will do everything I can to leave the Alliance better than when I came to it.

I want to be popular and join the GC!
While GC members enjoy the counci's hot tub, shooting range, and thunder dome, the GC is not, and should not, be romantic.
Join if you want to help but more importantly join if you *are able* to help. We're going to have fun this year, but please don't accept a nomination if you're not prepared to roll up the sleeves a little. The GC doesn't take a lot of time, but it also isn't just a badge of honor.

Will there be zeplins?
No, but there will be cupcakes, which are a lot like zeplins, and you can eat them.

I'd like to nominate Jake, because he ought to be nominated every year until he's willing to run again.

I'd like to nominate Ben Michaels for GC. Cause now that he is back in HEMA, even it if is with Josh, he has been working hard at it.

And he brings a lot of experience, knowledge and plenty of other goodnesses needed.

I appreciate the nomination but must again decline this year. My focus continues to be on my club, the eventual full launch of our Liechtenauer Federation (xKDF...a HEMA Alliance friend!), and Longpoint/Longpoint South/Longpoint Historical Fencing League.

I'm certainly still available to help with east-coast instructor certifications.
