Hi everyone =

I was nominated for the GC by Jonathan Mayshar. I've just joined the HEMAA, and my main focus for the last several years has been introducing the art to as many people outside of the established clubs and schools. I like to think of myself as an apostle of the European Martial Arts.

I enjoy bringing new folks into the fold and helping others become the best instructors and practitioners that they can be. I'm new to the HEMAA, but I've been around since it was created and I'll help where I can.

I need to give some more information about myself and my experience in HEMA/WMA. I started practicing with the sword in 1989 in armour. I was part of a tournament group that traveled around California doing tournament fights. When I started fighting, I didn't get any other instructions than 'they will try to back you up; don't let them.' As I charged him he threw me to the ground, three times. As a friend of mine called it, I learned in the 'school of hard knocks'.

I didn't see my first manuscript till 1999 when I was in Scotland working with Paul Macdonald. I really began my study of Fior in 2000. I started my school, Davenriche European Martial Artes School (DEMAS) in July of 2000. DEMAS was working in back yards till 2003 when I got my first 'door' and I went professional. I rented space in the back of a fruit packaging plant. The school smelled of pineapple, onions and guano.

In December of 2015 we moved into a facility in Santa Clara that has indoor archery, knife throwing range and an indoor airsoft range. As well as a medieval tract and renaissance tract of weapons systems. In the school we have been working on teaching teachers. If we can create the instructors today, then the art has a better chance of continuing after we are gone.

Some confusion.

There are, no kidding, TWO Bill Frisbees in HEMAA. The one running is a long-time HEMA guy who fights in armor.

Ben was nominated, but I don't see him on the ballot. Did he decline?

He did. He has other plans inside HEMAA.
