Logo ideas

Postby Scott Hanson » Mon Aug 06, 2012 6:56 pm

Here are some ideas for our logo, in no particular order. Please add your own or send them to me to add, and comment. Once the thread has run on a bit, I'll start a poll so we can vote, unless we come to consensus before that.

Here are a couple more that wouldn't fit in the first post.

For the stack of weapons, feel free to imagine the state on top, or another image.

For the image from Talhoffer, replace the lion with a badger in the same pose, minus the wings.

what about the state and swords logo with a snarling badger or even rampant badger under the writing? that image is simple and clean which will make it easier for screen pressing on shirts and other items.

We could use the state in place of the shield, and put the rampant badger on the state, and have the writing underneath too. Not sure which would be easier for printing.

The reason I like the badger is not just for WI; it was a symbol of boldness or aggression, and we're told to fight fearlessly.

Also, what about colors? Just black and white for ease of printing?

I've always been partial to OD green and black lettering, but black and white is a very classical look that always works as well.

I like the rampant badger idea and building around that, the halberds are ok but the ends stick out quite a bit, more swords perhaps?. Ill try to come up with something here and post as well.

Hey guys, great discussion. To be honest, I don't care too much about the particulars of a logo, so long as it is well executed.

I'm attaching a picture for an example of was a heraldic badger could look like. This one of course lacks a crown, which I think is a very cool idea Scott.

Please please use the badger!

(I like the heraldic badger, but the best would be if you could get an artist to do one for you like the UW badger but with a fechtschule jerkin instead of a sweater.)

If we copy Bucky too closely, couldn't that have copyright implications?

I think heraldic badger rampant is my favorite anyways.

As for the crossed halberds sticking out too much: I just grabbed a stock image and mocked something up quick. I'm not a graphic designer, but we'll take the final idea to one to get something.

I like crossed halberds better than crossed swords, so that's why I did it. Personal preference. If everyone else prefers crossed swords, of course we'll go with that.
