One of my students, Jeremiah Smith, has finally taken an interest in doing composite work. He's compiled the four known versions of Andre Paurñfeyndt's fascinating treatise. This includes my first ever manual transcription, from the rare 1516 edition. Paurñfeyndt's work is quite different from those of his fellow masters in the Liechtenauer tradition, perhaps because of his stated intention to provide a textbook for beginning swordsman. Enjoy.

There is some awesome material there! Thanks Jeremiah!

Re: Wiktenauer update: Andre Paurñfeyndt
of course it should be mentioned that the great brunt of this work was done by the individuals who translated and transcribed these volumes and made them available to us:
Hans Heim, Claus Drexler, Jeff Tsay, Alexander Kiermayer, Olivier Dupuis, Didier de Grenier, Michael Huber, Dierk Hagedorn and of course Micheal Chidester.
speaking of which anyone want to take a shot at translating this piece of the introduction?
DEM Hochwirdigen Groſmechtigen Furſtñ vnd herren her MATHEus deſʒ heyligen Remiſchen ſtul Cardinal Sancti Angeli a latere / Biſchoff cʒu Gurck / perhelffer des piſtumſʒ Salcʒburck c&. Endbeudt Andre Paurñfeyndt Freyfechter vñ Cardinaliſcher groſmechtigkait trewer trabandt / ſeyn untertenig dienſt
I am trying to tie Meister Paurnfeyndt to Cardinal Mattheus Lang of early reformation fame. The dates Certainly correspond, and if this is the Cardinal he worked for it would go a long way to painting a clearer picture of the state of the German art in the early part of the 16th century.

Kevin Maurer of the Meyer FreiFechter Guild has kindly donated a translation of the Longsword section to the wiki, which is now in its proper position online.

Yay! That is cool.
By the way : What about the meaning of that master's strange surname?
Perhaps it meant something like Peasant-Foe or Farmer-Fiend - hah!

I think that either could be the case and probably was an affected surname to pander to his patron, after all Cardinal Lang was the sort of person who Was basically always at odds with the general populace
