Arms and Armor Feders?

Postby Scott M. » Mon Aug 08, 2016 6:12 pm

What are people's thoughts/Opinions on the Arms and Armor feder-style training swords?

I'm curious not only how people see they compare against the other manufacturers (durability, quality, "less presence in the bind", stiff in the thrust", etc), but also if there's any issues/concerns with using them for tournaments, etc.

These are the two models I'm asking about:

They are good feders. A bit pricey but they last a long time on average. I've not personally used one, but I've several friends who do. No one had every really had a complaint about them.

Thanks Keith, the club I study with in Minneapolis uses them almost exclusively for their steel (big surprise - the club's only a 20 minutes drive from A&A...), so I haven't had the opportunity to see very many from others - so far just one Castille and one Darksword Armoury. It's severely limited any basis for comparison for feel, balance, behavior in the bind, durability, etc.

I also have a question about their flat, rounded tip in tournaments - I've seen some discussions about the need for some kind of rolled or spatulated tip or an extra rubber bumper attached to the tip in order for it to be allowed in the tournament. - has anyone seen this requirement for style of tip in tournaments or seen this type of tip barred from use in an event without one?
