50-55 inches should do you fine.
Remember that you will have the advantage few do what is long for some will be fine for you. The handle would be my main worry as I assume your hands are a bit large yes? A comfy handle will be most important. If you do more Italian stuff a shorter relative grip might prove beneficial. Late German and a longer grip will be better.

That advice is based on Vadi, who is writing quite late, and it produces a very large sword (personally one I find unusably large).
I would recommend simply buying a standard model, or ideally handling a number of other people's swords before purchasing your own. Basically any reasonable feder (e.g. a Regenyei) will be a useful training tool for now, and eventually you can sell it on and buy a new one more suited to your preferences, once you have the experience to judge that.
